In support of a 20 year contract with an Aerospace industry OEM, A&M EDM has opened an Aerospace Development Cell and new Inspection Area.

The investment of approximately £800,000 is set to well equip the firm in meeting the requirements of the West Midlands based industry OEM with whom they have successfully secured the contract.  The Aerospace Development Cell and refurbished Inspection Area is also safeguarding the company’s present employees and effectively increasing the company’s capabilities to conduct work for their existing customers.  It has also opened up the possibility of the firm recruiting 4 or 5 new staff members in the future to deal with the increased work load.

The Smethwick based firm are looking forward to 2013 expectantly.  Kevin Powell, Quality Manager for A&M EDM said of the firm’s recent performance: “We have already seen a 15-20 % increase in turnover during the last 12 months.  We are waiting to see how things develop in the New Year but we are confident that with the investments we have made and the contracts we have secured that next year also looks incredibly promising.”

The opening of the new facilities coincided with the company’s 10 year anniversary.  Both achievements were jointly celebrated in October with a pig roast attended by customers, suppliers and fellow Made in the Midlands members.

The investment follows on from other significant investments being made by the business.  During 2012, the company have already invested in a Star Weld Integral Laser Welder from Rofin Baasel UK to increase their laser welding capabilities. The machine, which incorporates CNC welding capabilities, increases the number of machine hours available and enables a wider range of component sizes to be processed.  This has been in addition to substantial investment in a spark erosion machine, three wire eroders and four CNC mills.

A&M EDM offer a wide range of precision engineering services and have acquired a vast experience across a very broad range of industries both within the UK and across Europe.  It is the company’s dedication to continual investment in the latest technology that has been a key component in their success.  Their facilities house over 30 CNC machines and feature the latest in EDM, wire EDM and conventional machining technologies.  A&M EDM’s expertise and extensive equipment enables them to offer a range of services from wire erosion (WEDM), CNC Spark Erosion (EDM), CNC EDM hole drilling, EDM hole drilling, CNC Laser Welding, conventional CNC machining and comprehensive general tool-room.
